How to use Semi-electric Order Picker correctly?

Jul 20,2023

Using a semi-electric order picker, also known as a semi-electric pallet stacker, requires proper training and understanding of its operation. These machines are commonly used in warehouses and distribution centers to lift and move materials and goods at various heights. Here are the steps to use a semi-electric order picker correctly:

  1. Training: Ensure that the operator has received proper training on the safe operation of the semi-electric order picker. Training should cover machine controls, safety procedures, and proper handling of loads.

  2. Pre-Operational Inspection: Before using the order picker, conduct a pre-operational inspection to check for any damage or issues with the machine. Inspect the brakes, wheels, forks, and safety features. If any problems are detected, report them to a supervisor or maintenance personnel for repair.

  3. Battery Charging: Make sure the order picker's battery is fully charged before use. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for charging the battery to ensure optimal performance.

  4. Safety Gear: The operator should wear appropriate safety gear, including a helmet, safety shoes, and any other required personal protective equipment (PPE) before operating the order picker.

  5. Load Capacity: Check the load capacity of the order picker and ensure that the total weight of the load being lifted does not exceed this capacity.

  6. Operating Controls: Familiarize yourself with the order picker's operating controls, including the steering wheel, lift and lower controls, and emergency stop button.

  7. Lifting the Load: Position the forks of the order picker under the load, ensuring that they are fully inserted and secure. Use the lift controls to raise the load to the desired height.

  8. Traveling: Use the steering wheel to navigate the order picker to the desired location. Operate the machine at a safe speed, especially when turning or maneuvering in tight spaces.

  9. Safety Precautions: Always be aware of your surroundings and the presence of other employees or equipment in the area. Sound the horn or use warning lights when necessary.

  10. Lifting and Lowering: Use the lift controls to raise or lower the load only when the order picker is stationary and not in motion.

  11. Parking: When finished using the order picker, lower the load to the ground and park it in a designated area. Engage the parking brake and turn off the power to conserve battery life.
